5 Ways Tultex is Going Green!
Tultex Apparel is going green! We aren’t just talking about our various green shade offerings, but environmentally as well. All of our fabric is made from USA grown cotton, dyed with ecologically safe chemicals and manufactured in an eco-friendly facility. Doing our part to keep the earth and your closet beautiful.
Sustainability is one of our top priorities. We have taken several steps to not only promote a sustainable facility, but to fully become one as well. We are constantly looking for ways we can improve because our customers deserve the best.
Certified Ethical Trade
Our workers are very important to us. Without them, we wouldn’t be where we are today. That is why we make sure to comply with all local labor laws and security and environmental regulations. Our manufacturing facility is 4-Pillar SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) certified. The four pillars are Labor Standards, Health and Safety, Business Ethics and The Environment. This ensures that everyone is not only safe and healthy, but happy too!
Reduced Water Waste
We have updated all of our machines to newer technology that reduces water usage. Our water and chemical consumption have been reduced by 30 percent. On top of this, 70 percent of our water is reused after approval by the local water treatment facility.
Not only have we reduced our water usage but made sure that the water returned to the environment is clean and safe. We have very strict control over the disposal of any dangerous residuals which has then caused a significant reduction of those residuals’ creation. Finally, all of our discharged water is sent from our Water Treatment Plant after primary treatment to a local facility for environmentally safe disposal.
Renewable and Natural Materials
All dyes and chemicals are bought through OEKO-TEX certified suppliers to keep in compliance with higher ecological and safety practice standards. All fabrics that are OEKO-TEX certified have been tested and certified as free from harmful chemicals and safe for use.
All of our dye and chemical suppliers are also members of the ETAD (Ecological and Toxicological Association of Dyes and Organic Pigments Manufacturers). The ETAD has set a standard for all their members to provide high quality product and work to improve the overall production process. Ecologically safe dyes coupled with our USA cotton fabric is what makes our tees soft, sustainable and widely loved.
Small Carbon Footprint
Over the years we have focused on making changes to reduce our carbon footprint. One way was in the form of energy consumption. All of our lighting has been switched to LED bulbs. We have also reduced air pollution from our factories. Special filters have been incorporated into our machines that not only avoid polluting the air but also reduces gas and energy consumption and reuses warm air.
This year we significantly reduced our paper consumption by promoting the use of our new Digital Catalog for 2020. Although we do offer paper copies, these will only be mailed out upon request rather than through any wasteful mass mailings.
